Casper x Medley 2024
This breeding is long awaited and so anticipated. I first saw Casper advertised back in 2022 and immediately jumped on the chance to bring his imported lines into my program. His sire is the famous Soul Almighty at Pic Pokey “Rayan”. I’ve been sitting on this straw waiting for the right time to breed Medley and I’m so glad it is not only time but that it took! The amount of time I poured into worrying she wouldn’t take to a surgical AI…
This breeding is the beginning of my several year long plan that will include lines that are very similar and tie together to get my desired type and movement. Casper x Medley is considered an outcross breeding since there is very little COI between them. However, I feel strongly that Casper compliments Medley well and will help improve upon the areas I’m hoping to improve upon with her. From what I’ve seen in Casper progeny here in the US – he is a consistent thrower and I feel that he and Medley have similar types that will mesh well. They do have similar dogs in their pedigree – Waveney Caught in Time, Nahrof Formale Affair and Borderfame Heart N Soul to name a few. Most importantly though – both go back to some incredible dogs and kennels that lean heavily on my love of Australian lines.
Medley is a go getter. She has high drive for all things disc, tug, and a strong prey drive for fastcats. She is nimble, athletic, and I feel like she embodies the “Border Collie” type so well. She can be competitive in the conformation ring and immediately go out and do sports without hesitation. Her versatility reigns true in her puppies as well. Medley’s first litter is almost 3 now and we have such incredible versatility being exhibited. She has produced 2 dual registry champions with UKC & AKC, one FCI Puerto Rican JR CH, puppies competing in rally, agility, barn hunt and dock diving. She has passed on a natural desire to herd which is exhibited in 3 of her daughters who have had the chance to be on stock. Her champion offspring finished quickly and easily and Indie & Wisp are well on their way to their grand. Medley also has a beautiful off switch in the house and does not mind lounging on the couch but can turn on at the drop of a hat. She has never met a stranger and loves children.
Casper passes down his happy-go-lucky personality to his puppies. He comes from lines of multi-talented dogs and while he himself has not had the chance to show in conformation or sports – I feel confident from what I’ve seen in his progeny that he passes down a desire to work and please. He has been described as “A big boy with super substance, angles, and temperament. He is medium energy level and loves everyone!” He has relatives in the US who are exhibiting their versatility in conformation, rally, disc and herding. And has puppies that have also gone on to finish their AKC CH with ease. He comes from a line of beautiful fluid movers and I am just jazzed to add his reach to Medley.
I am expecting puppies to be very similar to our Chase x Medley litter – versatile, social, and well put together. We are expecting only black and white puppies from this pairing with the possibility of carrying both gold and dilute.
